Based Services
The Prevention Center is designed
to promote positive mental health through the building of
skills during critical points in life. Programs are offered
throughout the community: in schools, at community organizations,
and in Crider Center Clinics.
Changes and Choices
/Life Skills Training
Changes and Choices/ Life Skills Training is a multi-session
course in problem solving skills development designed for
young adolescents. Schools may select topics from the following,
according to their needs:
- Dealing with Loss and Depression
- Abuse Prevention
- Conflict Resolution
- Self-Esteem: Being Your Own Person
- Handling Peer Pressure
- Addictions in the Family

Healthy Dating Relationships
Healthy Dating Relationships is a one to two-session course for
teens which addresses child abuse, date rape, and skills that promote
safe dating relationships.
Personal Safety
Personal Safety is a one-session workshop designed for elementary
students to help them distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate
touching, how to handle difficult situations, available support
systems, and learning that improper touching is not their fault.
Resolving Conflict
Resolving conflict is a three-session workshop to help kids learn
to solve conflict without violence. Topics include:
- Trouble Starters & Trouble Stoppers
- Seeing Others Point of View
- Obtaining Win-Win Situations
- Friendly Words & Fighting Words
Teasing and Bullying
Teasing and Bullying is a two-session workshop that provides kids
with the tools they need to stand up for themselves or others who
are being picked on by teasers or bullies.
Confidently Home Alone
Confidently Home Alone is a two-session course which teaches children
ages 8 - 13 how to safely stay home alone. Parents attend a parallel
session the first session and then parents and child together develop
rules, safeguards, and expectations for these situations.
