Missouri Advocacy Organizations

MHA of Greater St. Louis

The Mental Health Association of Greater St. Louis (MHA) is a not-for-profit, non-governmental, charitable corporation founded in 1945 for the purpose of giving form and structure to the growing community concerns for the needs of those with mental illness. MHA is the only organization in the St. Louis community concerned with the entire spectrum of mental health and mental illness.

MO-SPAN

The mission of the Missouri Statewide Parent Advisory Network is to improve the lives of children and youth with severe emotional disturbance (SED) and their families by supporting and mobilizing families through training, education, advocacy, and system change.

NAMI of Missouri

National Advocacy Organizations

Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health

A national parent-run non-profit organization focused on the needs of children and youth with emotional, behavioral or mental disorders and their families.

NAMI

The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) is a nonprofit, grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy organization of consumers, families, and friends of people with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and anxiety disorders.

National Mental Health Association

The National Mental Health Association (NMHA) is the country's oldest and largest nonprofit organization addressing all aspects of mental health and mental illness. With more than 340 affiliates nationwide. NMHA works to improve the mental health of all Americans, especially the 54 million individuals with mental disorders, through advocacy, education, research and service.

 

Community Mental Health Centers

BJC

BJC HealthCare's mission is to improve the health of the people and communities they serve.  BJC Behavioral Health Services are community mental health centers. With three locations, the centers deliver and coordinate a responsive system of customized, community-based, high-quality care that values customers' desires, choices, dreams and right to self determination.

Comtrea

Comtrea is the community Mental Health Center for Jefferson County, designated by the Jefferson County Commission and the administrative agent for the Psychiatric Services Division of the Missouri DMH (Department of Mental Health) for Jefferson County.

MO DMH Division of Comprehensive Psychiatric Services

To find a Community Mental Health facility in your area please visit the Missouri Department of Mental Health's Division of Comprehensive Psychiatric Services. The services of the Division of Comprehensive Psychiatric Services are accessed through 25 administrative agents, which determine a person's eligibility for services and provide services for eligible individuals. A listing of the administrative agents is available on their website.

Catholic Family Counseling

Catholic Family Counseling's mission is to promote harmonious individual and family relationships by supporting positive values in family living. To provide professional counseling and other support services to individuals and families experiencing conflict arising from a number of factors.

Lutheran Family and Children's Services

Lutheran Family and Children's Services of Missouri aids families, children and individuals by providing adoption, counseling, education and resources to assist with physical and emotional needs.

 

Emergency Services

Behavioral Health Response

Mental Health crisis services for residents of Eastern Missouri. BHR provides confidential telephone counseling to people in crisis, as well as mobile outreach services, community referral services, school and workplace violence prevention programs, and critical incident stress debriefing.

Crisis Nursery

The Saint Louis Crisis Nursery is committed to the prevention of child abuse and neglect and provides emergency intervention, respite care, and support to families in crisis.

Life Crisis Services

Life Crisis Services receives over 200 calls each day from people of all ages who are struggling with suicide, grief, depression, relationships, work, children, parents, alcohol, drugs, sexual issues, gambling, anger, abuse, AIDS, health, money, shelter, and other life struggles. 

Youth In Need

Youth in Need, believing in the strength and potential of every child and family, provides temporary residential shelter for youth ages 10 through 18, who are experiencing crisis because of homelessness, running away, or other imminent risk of running or becoming homeless.

Missouri Department of Social Services

A true measure of a society is the extent of its concern for those less fortunate-its intent of keeping families together, preventing abuse and neglect, and encouraging self-sufficiency and independence. In Missouri, programs dealing with these concerns are administered by the state Department of Social Services.

Missouri Division of Family Services

The mission of the Missouri Division of Family Services is to maintain or improve the quality of life for the people of Missouri by providing the best possible services to the public, with respect, responsiveness and accountability, which will enable individuals and families to better fulfill their potential.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. It is nonprofessional, self-supporting, nondenominational, multiracial, apolitical, and available almost everywhere. There are no age or education requirements. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about his or her drinking problem.

Al Anon/Alateen

Al Anon's purpose is to help families and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of living with the problem drinking of a relative or friend. Similarly, Alateen is our recovery program for young people. Alateen groups are sponsored by Al-Anon members.
